Commercial Proprietary License

license tiers

Starter, Indie and Pro ship compiled assemblies. Only Source and Studio ship the .cs files.

OpenMon.IO Monster Capture Engine (MCE) is proprietary commercial software. Copyright © 2024–2026 Ezequiel Mora Martinez. MCE is licensed, not sold.

These terms apply in addition to the Unity Asset Store terms and any other authorized storefront terms. If a storefront rule is mandatory, it controls only to that extent; otherwise, the stricter MCE restriction applies.

Grant of License

By purchasing, downloading, importing, cloning, or using MCE, you receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable, single-seat license. Your rights depend on your edition:

EditionLicense grant
StarterFree use, and free games: you may publish and distribute for free a game made with it, with the OpenMon splash and the permanent watermark. Selling or monetizing it requires Indie or above. The edition ships compiled DLLs with the API closed.
IndieCommercial use for your own single-player game projects, including the compiled Essentials Importer. Splash/branding is optional.
ProIndie grant plus commercial use of the Nakama online layer (compiled client) and the server for your own game. You may run the server for your own game only.
SourcePro grant plus the full C# source, Essentials Importer rights and source-level customization rights for all included modules, for your own projects only.
StudioSource grant plus the private repository (continuously updated main, experimental features, priority support) and the cartridge importers, for your own projects only.

All editions are single-seat unless you have a separate written team or enterprise agreement.

You may ship compiled games built with MCE to end users. This does not grant any right to ship, expose, extract, bundle, or redistribute MCE itself, its source code, editor tools, importers, server modules, documentation source, sample databases, or any modified derivative of those materials as a standalone asset, package, template, SDK, toolkit, plugin, or source distribution.

No Redistribution or Re-Commercialization

You may not, directly or indirectly:

  • Redistribute, resell, rent, lease, lend, sublicense, share, upload, mirror, leak, publish, transfer, or otherwise make MCE available to any third party.
  • Publish MCE, modified MCE files, extracted components, source code, server code, editor tools, importers, documentation source, or sample content on any asset store, marketplace, package registry, public repository, private repository accessible by unlicensed users, file-sharing service, Discord, forum, cloud drive, course bundle, or similar channel.
  • Repackage or re-commercialize MCE as a Unity asset, template, starter kit, engine, framework, SDK, plugin, editor extension, importer, battle system, database tool, learning kit, consulting deliverable, or competing/substantially similar product.
  • Sell, license, or deliver services where the deliverable includes MCE source files or extractable MCE components. Contractors, collaborators, or clients who need file-level access must hold their own valid seat or be covered by a written multi-seat agreement.
  • Remove, obscure, or alter copyright notices, license text, proprietary notices, or branding required by your edition.
  • Use MCE to create, train, or publish a competing engine/toolkit or any product designed to replace, clone, or commercially substitute MCE.

AI / Machine Learning Prohibition

You may not, directly or indirectly:

  • Use MCE, its source code, generated data, documentation, or any portion thereof to train, fine-tune, prompt-engineer, or otherwise improve any artificial intelligence, machine learning, or large-language model, whether hosted, embedded, or custom.
  • Extract, scrape, parse, or otherwise mine MCE's code, data, documentation, or assets for the purpose of creating training datasets, synthetic data, or knowledge bases for AI/ML systems.
  • Create, distribute, or sell any AI/ML tool, plugin, system, or service that was built using or trained on MCE's code or output without explicit written permission from the Licensor.
  • Use automated code-generation systems (AI coding assistants, pair programmers, etc.) to reproduce, reimplement, or replace MCE's functionality in a competing product.

This restriction survives termination of the license and applies regardless of whether the AI system was used for development assistance, automated code generation, data analysis, or any other purpose.

Any prohibited redistribution, re-commercialization, or seat sharing terminates the license immediately and may result in legal action.

Refund Policy

Because MCE includes source code and digital files, refunds are available only if the purchased file/package has never been downloaded or accessed. Once the asset archive, package, source bundle, server bundle, or any licensed file has been downloaded, imported, cloned, or otherwise accessed, the sale is final and no refund is available, except where a mandatory law or storefront rule requires otherwise.

Multi-Seat and Team Licenses

The default license covers one developer. Teams with more than one developer working with MCE files require a multi-seat license. Contact openmon.io for enterprise licensing.

MCE Components

These are not third-party dependencies. They are components of MCE, licensed exclusively as part of the engine, and each ships its own licence file inside the folder.

NovaInspector

The inspector layer: attributes, groups, buttons and the drawers that give MCE's assets their editor UI. Used by 100+ engine files.

Licence: exclusive to OpenMon MCE — Assets/Plugins/NovaInspector/LICENSE.md

NovaMotion

The animation and tweening layer, used through MCE's own OpenMon.Foundation.Tweening API. You do not install it separately and it is not on the Package Manager.

Licence: exclusive to OpenMon MCE — Assets/Plugins/NovaMotion/LICENSE.md

What "exclusive" means here

Both may be used as part of a project built with MCE, under the terms of the MCE licence you purchased. They may not be extracted, redistributed, or used in a project that does not incorporate MCE. The full terms are in each folder's LICENSE.md.

Third-Party Open-Source Components

MCE incorporates several third-party open-source libraries. The complete list, with the full license text of each component, ships inside the package in Assets/OpenMon/Third-Party Notices.txt. The main ones:

Nakama -- Heroic Labs (Apache License 2.0)

The multiplayer backend used by the Pro, Source and Studio editions.

License: Apache 2.0 -- Copyright 2018 The Nakama Authors Full text: github.com/heroiclabs/nakama/blob/master/LICENSE

KaitaiStruct (MIT License)

Binary format parsing library used by the Essentials Importer.

License: MIT -- Copyright (c) 2015-2023 Kaitai Project Full text: github.com/kaitai-io/kaitai_struct/blob/master/LICENSE

Earlier versions required DOTween

Releases before the tween migration depended on DOTween (Demigiant), which is not redistributable inside another Unity package. That dependency is gone: the animation layer is now NovaMotion, an MCE component (see below). Nothing in the engine requires a DOTween purchase.

Unity ML-Agents Toolkit (Apache License 2.0)

Machine learning training framework used for battle AI.

License: Apache 2.0 -- Copyright 2017-2023 Unity Technologies Full text: github.com/Unity-Technologies/ml-agents/blob/main/LICENSE

Unity 2D Tilemap Extras (Unity Companion License)

Extended tilemap functionality (RuleTile, SiblingTile base).

License: Unity Companion License -- Copyright Unity Technologies Full text: unity.com/legal/licenses/unity-companion-license
